Greek Olympics

Greece is well known for it's olympic games and the ancient Greek Olympics. The ancient olympic games were very different than our modern day olympics. They lacked rules, for example how the athletes are allowed to have physical contact with each other, although this rule was probably only missing at the first olympics. This is the sign for the olympics, even today.

Although, the olympics did kind of dissapear for awhile. No one entirely knows when this happened, but as soon as it did, no one really seemed to care. But suddenly, in 1821, people decided to try to revive the olympics. This revival act began after the Greek War of Independence. The idea first popped up in a poem called "Dialogue of the Dead", published in 1833. Honestly, nothing much is known about this revival act, because it happened more than a couple thousand years ago. But off of the subject, let's talk about the sports they did.

Javelin Throw -
This sport consists of throwing a spear-like stick as far as possible. It's pretty straight forward, but only the strongest compete in this sport.

Discus Throw:

This sport is somewhat like the javelin toss, but is even more physically demanding. It consists of throwing a disc as far as possible after spinning a few times. Don't spin to much or you'll be too dizzy, don't spin to little or you won't get very far at all!

Track and field:
This one isn't really a sport by itself, because it consists of many things, such as the hurdles, or the long jump, maybe the sprint? Or the polevault. But since it's all about running, I decided to just put it in one.

That's all I know about the olympics. But there are a lot more olympic sports!
